The Graduate Record Examination or GRE, is an important step in the graduate school or business school application process. The GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs and graduate business programs (MBA) globally. Every year numerous students seek admission in various colleges and universities across US. The GRE examines candidates for a standard level of knowledge, which they are supposed to have at the college level. It is an excellent opportunity for students to compete for admission. The GRE is developed and administered by test maker ETS to provide graduate and business schools with common measures for comparing applicants’ qualifications and preparedness for graduate-level academic work. Graduate school and business school admissions committees look at GRE score, along with academic record and supporting materials, to assess student’s readiness for the rigors of graduate academic study. The GRE exam measures student’s command of basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis as well as college-level vocabulary. It helps to assess student’s verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills. To succeed in a competitive graduate or business school program, a student need to have a strong mastery of these skills. Students can register and schedule GRE at http://www.ets.org/gre, and make payment through credit card. The paper-delivered GRE is administered at certain testing centers on a limited number of dates. Students can see a full list of testing centers, test dates, and seat availability on the ETS site. It is highly recommended that students should register for preferred GRE test date early so they can select a date that will allow enough time for ETS to process scores and send them to the institutions they will be applying to timely.
